What is Spiriva?

Spiriva (ееiotropium bromide) is the gold standard for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This drug has been proven to be highly effective and safe in a number of studies (including studies lasting 4 years).

COPD does not usually occur in children. The safety and efficacy of Spiriva in children have not been studied.

First-time use

1. Remove the transparent sleeve: keep the cap closed; press the lock button and pull strongly with the other hand on the transparent sleeve;
2. Cartridge: insert the narrow end into the inhaler; place the inhaler with the bottom of the cartridge on a hard surface and press firmly on it until the cartridge clicks into place;
3. Replace the transparent sleeve until it clicks;
4. Turn the transparent sleeve in the direction indicated by the arrows on the label until you hear a click (half a turn), keeping the cap closed;
5. Open the cap all the way;
6. Direct the inhaler down and press the dose delivery button; close the cap. Repeat steps 4–6 until an aerosol cloud appears, then repeat steps 4–6 3 more times.

Daily use

1. Rotate the transparent sleeve in the direction indicated by the arrows on the label until you hear a click (half a turn) while keeping the cap closed;
2. Open the cap as far as it will go;
3. Exhale slowly and fully;
4. Clasp the mouthpiece with your lips without blocking the air intakes;
5. Take a slow, deep breath through the mouth while pressing the dose button;
6. Hold the breath for about 10 seconds or as long as you can;
7. To get a second inhalation dose, repeat: Turn, Open, Press.

Caring for your inhaler

• The mouthpiece and metal part of the atomizer should be cleaned with a damp soft cloth at least once a week.
• Slight discoloration of the mouthpiece does not affect the functioning of the inhaler.
• If necessary, wipe the inhaler also outside with a damp cloth.

How to determine when you need a new inhaler?

• The inhaler contains 60 inhalation doses (i.e. 30 therapeutic doses) when used as directed (2 inhalation doses once a day);
• The dose indicator shows approximately how many doses remain;
• When the dose indicator points to the red area of the scale, it means that the medication is left for about 7 days (14 inhalations);
• When the dose indicator of the inhaler reaches the end of the red scale, the inhaler will automatically lock – no more inhalation dose can be received (turning the transparent sleeve will not be possible);
• Throw away the inhaler 3 months after the first use, even if not completely used.

• the first trimester of pregnancy;
• age under 18 years.

With caution: angle-closure glaucoma, bladder neck obstruction, prostatic hyperplasia, renal failure.

The drug is not used to relieve an acute attack of bronchospasm.

Does it make you gain weight?
